Bypassing the bias: the influence of behavioral factors on management practices

November 11, 2019 the focus of the guest lecture is behavioral factors (e.g. mindset, deep-seated beliefs, biases and actions), which have a significant impact on judgment and decision-making, yet are often overlooked when companies make decisions. Common loopholes and mistakes in the reasoning process will be discussed, highlighting some of the most damaging biases often held by managers.

Dr. Giedre Vasiliauskaite

The focus of this guest lecture is behavioral factors (e.g. mindset, deep-seated beliefs, biases and actions), which have a significant impact on judgment and decision-making, yet are often overlooked when companies make decisions. Common loopholes and mistakes in the reasoning process will be discussed, highlighting some of the most damaging biases often held by managers. Furthermore, based on the research about successful organizations, the lecture will also provide clues how to overcome bias, by implementing critical thinking practices. A business case will be discussed in order to illustrate biases and the process of debiasing.

Dr. Giedrė Vasiliauskaitė is a lecturer, trainer and coach specialized in critical thinking and cross-cultural communication skill development for academia and business. She holds a doctorate in Philosophy from Erasmus University Rotterdam (2011) and possesses almost two decades of international research experience. Giedrė also holds a co-active coaching certification and is passionate to work with career and life transitions.Since 2008 Dr. Giedrė Vasiliauskaite is teaching Critical Thinking and Argument Analysis courses at Master’s and MBA-executive programs at the Rotterdam Business School as delivering trainings and coaching for businesses.
