About the School

The School of Economics and Management is the result of bringing together the HSE St Petersburg Faculties of Economics and Management. The new school which combines the best of each of the former faculties offers three Bachelor’s and six Master’s degree programmes.

The main goal of the new school in teaching undergraduates and post-graduate students is to prepare them for professional work and independent research consistent with the high demands of international educational standards within the framework of an interdisciplinary approach.

The School took shape as a big faculty in 2014. The combining of the two existing Faculties of Economics and Management in St Petersburg is part of the HSE development strategy.

Economics and mathematics focus in management training has always been a strong point at the HSE St Petersburg Faculty of Management, so students acquired the strategic thinking and planning skills necessary for real managers.

Management graduates often choose to continue their studies with combined specialisations on HSE post-graduate courses or in major international universities where they are equal to the competition in applying their theoretical knowledge and research experience.

Many hold responsible jobs in major companies in St Petersburg, Moscow, Europe and other countries for which they were well prepared by their practical training at HSE solving cases and taking part in real projects and academic mobility programmes throughout their course.

Duties of the head of school are carried out by professor of the Department of Finance ,and head of the master's programme "Finance"  Elena Moiseevna Rogova.

The new school has five departments to teach students on the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Economics and Management.

Besides teaching, staff are involved in research and take part in the major national and international conferences, seminars, forums, roundtables, winter and summer schools, etc. These outstanding representatives of international research become directors of many projects.

All students, particularly Master’s students are involved in research projects in the laboratory and in project teaching groups. They also join projects run on other HSE campuses (Moscow, Perm, Nizhny Novgorod) where they can develop their research potential and get a feel of what it is like to work in research. For many these are the first steps in a successful career in academia.
