Decomposing the causes of socioeconomic-related health inequality in Russia"

Health inequities are systematic differences in the health status of different population groups. Health inequities have significant social and economic costs both to individuals and societies.  There is an established relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and health. The question as to how these inequalities arise is more relevant than ever, and researchers continue to approach this problem using very diverse datasets, methods and research designs. Our study was aimed at defining the overall picture of socioeconomic-related health inequality (SES) in Russia and exploring the potential causes of this inequality. We found that bad health is more concentrated among low-income groups and healthcare access among the high-income groups. Overall SES inequality in self-assessed health has increased since the year of 2010. The income-health gradient is related to gender, age, marital status, education, per capita household income, lifestyle factors, and settlement.
